The duo of Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker of Manchester City have contracted coronavirus.

This was disclosed by Manchester City in a statement on Christmas day.

According to the statement, the two players alongside two members of staff, tested positive for the virus — ahead of their Saturday’s English Premier League (EPL) game against Newcastle at the Etihad stadium.

The duo, along with two unnamed members of staff, will now undergo a period of self-isolation.

“Manchester City FC can confirm that Gabriel Jesus, Kyle Walker, and two members of staff have tested positive for COVID-19,” the statement read.

“All four personnel will now observe a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine.

“Everyone at the Club wishes our colleagues a speedy recovery over the Christmas period ahead of their return to work, training and competition.”

Jesus has been playing regularly for City in the absence of Sergio Aguero, but hasn’t been as prolific as he should be or Guardiola would have liked.

The Brazilian’s COVID-19 diagnosis comes on the heels of the the surge in the number of confirmed cases in the United Kingdom.
