Governors of the 36 states have agreed to take their vaccines on March 10 alongside their deputies.
This agreement was reached at a virtual meeting held on Thursday and presided over by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
The meeting was also attended by Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF); Osagie Ehanire, Health Minister; and Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The governors adopted the guidelines produced by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).
They reiterated that the front-line healthcare workers and the elderly would be first prioritised to take the vaccines.
They also resolved to sensitize the populace on the need for vaccines and their safety for people above 18 years.
According to the communiqué, the governor assured of protecting the efficacy of the vaccines.
“The state governors committed to working with the FG to ensure required cold Chain set up, trained personnel, and security of the vaccine rollout is in place.”
Citizens have been urged to use the portal on the NPHCDA website to register for vaccination.
On his part, the SGF told the governors that the vaccine is safe for people older than 18 years.
Mustapha also noted that the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is conducting tests to confirm if the vaccine is safe for rollout.
The SGF added that frontline workers will receive their vaccination alongside the president and vice-president on Saturday.
