The Atlas of Morocco made history as the first nation to win a second consecutive African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament – a title designed exclusively for home-based players.

The first half at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium was keenly contested between both sides but it ended goalless.

In the second half, Abdelmouna Boutouil broke the deadlock in the 69th minute for Morocco.

The captain of the Moroccan side, Ayoub El Kaabi, headed in the second goal in the 80th minute to put the game beyond the Malians.

Soufiane Rahimi of Morocco was voted the best player of the sixth edition of the championship.

Earlier on Saturday, Guinea beat hosts Cameroon 2-0 to win the third-place play-off.

This is the second time the Moroccans will be winning back to back CHAN titles.

They first achieved the feat on home soil three years ago with a 4-0 bashing of Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles.
