The lead actor of popular Nigerian soap opera, ‘Tinsel’. Victor Olaotan, has passed away.
It is understood that the veteran Nollywood personality breathed his last at the age of 69 on Thursday after a prolonged illness.
Olaotan started acting with a University of Ibadan (UI) theatre group where he met Wole Soyinka and Jimi Solanke.
He chose the path at age 15 through a teacher who was a member of the Ori Olokun Theatre group in the ’70s.
Olaotan had traveled to the United States in 1978 but returned to Nigeria in 2002 to continue his career in acting.
The actor studied drama at UI, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), and Rockets University in the US.
He became more popular in 2013 after his lead role in ‘Tinsel’ after it began airing in August 2008.
In 1959, the deceased had represented his school in a stage play titled ‘Gods Are Not To Blame’.
Unfortunately, Olaotan was involved in a motor accident in October 2016 and suffered a nervous system injury.
It was gathered that he was driving to a movie set when the accident struck around Apple Junction, in Festac, Lagos.
In 2018, Olaotan had sought financial aid for medical treatment outside Nigeria to avert the amputation of his legs.
Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) had said that Femi Otedola agreed to foot the medical bills of Olaotan.
