A founding member of The Supremes, the American female singing group, Mary Wilson, has passed on at the age of 76.
According to Jay Schwartz, the US singer’s publicist, she died at her home on Monday in Henderson, Nevada.
However, Schwartz did not give details on the cause of her death.
Mary is known for co-founding The Supremes at 15 with Diana Ross and Florence Ballard. She had stayed with the trio of Motown Records, a label owned by the Universal Music Group, until it was dissolved in 1977.
In a statement via its Twitter handle, the Motown label described the deceased as a “trailblazer” and “sweetheart”.
“Your art and legacy will forever live on in the Motown story. From our Motown family, rest in paradise,” it added.

She became a New York Times bestselling author in 1986 with her autobiography ‘Dreamgirl: My Life As a Supreme’. Two years after, The Supremes would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2019, Wilson partook in ‘Dancing With The Stars’, the US version of ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. Two days before her death, she had uploaded a video on YouTube announcing that she was working on releasing new solo material.
It is understood that Wilson’s family will be holding a funeral for the late singer in private due to COVID-19 restrictions.
In 1965, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross and Florence Ballard also performed some of their hit songs at The Mike Douglas Show.
Wilson also released hit projects like ‘Red Hot’, ‘Midnight Dancer’, ‘Someday We’ll Be Together’, ‘I Am Changing’ and ‘Pick Up the Pieces’.
