Nigerian highlife music legend Victor Olaiya dies at the age of 89. His death was announced on Wednesday by the Managing Director of the Evergreen Music Company Limited Bimbo Ehso. The star passed at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
Victor Olaiya’s breakthrough came when he decided to leave the Bobby Benson Jam Session Orchestra to start up his own band back in 1954 called the “Cool Cats”.
The “Baby Jowo” crooner once performed for Queen Elizabeth II and with Louis Armstrong when she visited Nigeria. He was born on the 31st of December, 1930 in Calabar, Cross River State but is from Ijesha-Ishu, Ekiti State.
