A former president of the senate, Bukola Saraki says the senate under his leadership did not confirm some appointees of President Muhammadu Buhari out of “due diligence”.
Saraki made this disclosure in a series of tweets on Wednesday while responding to a tweet by Dele Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine.
Momodu had described the former Kwara governor as one of the “most intelligent” leaders in Nigeria.
The former senate president said the actions the senate under him took was not a personal agenda but about the country.
“Thanks @DeleMomodu! Compliments of the season! As I used to emphasize during our conversations while I was President of the 8th @NGRSenate: the decisions that we took, the positions we adopted, and the interventions that we embarked on were in the interest of the nation,” he tweeted.
“When we didn’t confirm certain appointees, it was because we did our due diligence. When we invited the IG & the security chiefs, it was because we wanted to find solutions to the issues of insecurity at the time.
“It was never about a personal agenda. It was always about Nigeria!”

One of the nominees rejected by the Saraki-led senate was Ibrahim Magu, former acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Magu was not confirmed as the substantive chairman of the commission owing to a report by the Department of State Services (DSS) which accused him of corruption in 2017.
But Magu has now been indicted of corruption by a presidential panel that probed him after Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation (AGF), wrote a memo to Buhari, accusing the former anti-graft czar of gross malfeasance.
