English broadcaster and former TV host of Good Morning Britain, Piers Morgan, has maintained his criticism of the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, after quitting ITV breakfast programme, ‘Good Morning Britain’ (GMB), over the controversy.
Meghan and Prince Harry had recently granted an explosive interview with US media mogul, Oprah Winfrey, where they spoke about a number of inciting claims — including racism allegations — against the UK royal family.
On Monday, Morgan had during the breakfast programme expressed his reservations over Meghan’s revelations, saying he didn’t believe her claims.
However, his comments on GMB triggered a face-off with fellow presenter, Alex Beresford, during which he walked out of the show.
It also sparked a lot of criticism with over 41,000 people calling out Morgan and ITV — leading to an investigation by UK regulatory commission Ofcom on Tuesday.
The broadcaster would later quit the GMB as criticism continues to mount.
On Wednesday, the embattled anchor also took to his Twitter page to maintain his position while sharing a photo that read: “Some people’s idea of free speech is that they are free to say what they like, but if anyone says anything back, that is an outrage.”
In the caption, the broadcaster added: “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview.
“I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”

Morgan had been a friend of Meghan before she became the Duchess of Sussex but claimed she cut him off early in her relationship with Harry. He has been a regular critic of the couple ever since, alleging they were “hypocrites”.
