The senate of the Lagos State University (LASU) has appointed the deputy vice-chancellor, administration, of the institution, Prof. Damola Oke, as the acting vice-chancellor.
Oke’s appointment was announced on Monday during the emergency senate meeting of the varsity.
He is expected to replace the outgoing vice-chancellor, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, whose tenure elapsed on January 11.
Earlier, the governor of Lagos and Visitor to the institution, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had cancelled the previous process for the appointment of a new VC due to petitions arising from the selection procedure.
Thereafter, he asked Fagbohun to convene an emergency senate meeting aimed at appointing one of the deputy vice-chancellors as acting vice-chancellor.
It is understood that over 18 professors from about 10 universities applied for the job. There was, however, controversy over the qualification of some candidates selected to take over from Fagbohun.
